Fear is not the enemy… It is our call to greatness!
The gurus say that fear is an acronym — False Evidence Appearing Real. False evidence? Bullshit. Fear is a very real thing.
Fear crippled me for years — decades in fact. I was always scared of making a mistake, afraid of failure and judgement. I wrestled with those demons for years (and still do). Why did I have such a weak mindset? The conversations playing out in my head crippled me mentally. I was always afraid of going up to girls, afraid of being made fun of as I had bad skin and I had an extreme fear of speaking in public. My anxiety was so bad, that I actually developed a stutter. People would even laugh behind my back when I would try to tell a story in a social setting. I felt very alone.
Fear is one of the great paradoxes in life. As the saying goes…
The thing you fear the most is often the thing you most need to do.
But that is easier said than done when that persistent voice in our heads is constantly whispering to us…
Turn around!
You can’t do it!
You’re not good enough!
Who are you kidding?
What will they think?
What will they say?
What if I fail?
Stop wasting your time on that “dream”!
and the list goes on and on…
REFRAME YOUR FEAR
What most people don’t realize is we have the power to CHOOSE how we define what fear means to each of us. You can decide to let it control your life and cast you into a prison of mediocrity that results in a life filled with deep pain and regret or you can use the fear to propel you to the next level.
Fear of failure is a powerful force. If you look at fear differently, it is a game changer you can use to get where you are trying to go. Fear of failure can be used as a trigger that you need to take immediate action. As a sign that you need to step outside your comfort zone. It’s time to muster up the courage and step into the abyss of the unknown. Once you start facing your fears head on by taking massive action in spite of them, you have unlocked the door to freedom. Over time as you face your fears consistently, you will start to feel invincible and you will realize there is nothing you can’t do.
The key is to reframe your fear. Most people think once they encounter fear that it’s a wall the universe has put up telling you to turn around — “this isn’t for you”. The reality is that wall was put there to TEST you — “Is this person committed? Is this person willing to doing whatever it takes? How bad does this person really want it?”
Fear is the universe testing our resolve
…
So what are you going to do? Are you going to turn around and go back to comfort and choose the path of safety — the path of least resistance? OR are you going to face your fears head on and conquer them. Never forget the choice is ours. Fear is not the enemy — it is our call to greatness.
